Shew, what are you? With Nissan NA being based right here, these are pretty popular. There is a orange one and a grey one I see nearly everyday. For some reason I doubt the rear brake job being $3000. The front brakes for sure though. There $1250-1500 on the ISF and GS350 F Sports on the fronts and the GTR is a few steps above that.

I suddenly don’t feel bad spending $400 in my rear brakes.

I spent less than that for my front and rear brakes combined, with new Brembo discs. French brand Italian built car with over 200k miles on it...

I agree. But I do like the earlier GT-Rs and other lesser Skylines (up to R34s) too.

Its the rotors. 2 piece rotors are stupid expensive, and although you could just replace the rotor ring, a lot of times you also do the hats too, to avoid any issues at all. At a minimum $2k of that bill are parts alone.

This is kind of a “Well, what’d you expect?”

This isn’t a comuter Car its a performance Car. There is this term Daily Driver.

I figure the $700 cam job would be 10x as much if it were performance anything verses a mini-van.

Shame some manufacturers overcharge for 2-piece rotors. I’ve had some time behind the wheel of a C6 with DBA 2-piece rotors and that car stopped really hard. Those are only about 300 a piece.

DBA makes front and rear sizes for the GTR too and they’re somewhat popular with people who track and go through rotors at a faster rate (which a 2 ton car is prone to do). https://thmotorsports.com/i-2499203.aspx?2499203-Nissan-GT-R&gclid=CjwKCAjwzoDXBRBbEiwAGZRIeJQ_wZvnHs6tKYo9HkMVsWqICIdkRq2P-T0Z6-JWYvUMYsIJsUtrUxoCFZIQAvD_BwE

I suspected that about shopping around. This guy struck me as someone who would go to the dealer and who was easily parted from his money.

The C6 is a car that interests me, but not as much as the CTS-V. Either of those choices, are relatively modest and for my money, the Cadillac more so because you can take your family with you when you go drifting. In my opinion, that’s the pinnacle of American automobile manufacture.

You can’t go wrong with the CTS-V. I find myself often tempted by the V2 and even the V1 at times.

The V2 is obviously heavier than a C5 or C6, but it’s still well composed and seriously quick in stock form. They are also stout. The only thing I’ve seen people experience on track days is a warning that their diff is getting hot.

An auxiliary diff cooler, track pads, fluid, and rotors, and you should be all set.

Dang it, now this has me thinking about V2's!

Thats what I thought, but in real world applications where brake parts dont get replaced/rebuilt at the same rate as in motorsports, things stick, bolts snap, hats crack. Maximizing life isn’t in the equation for go fast/stop fast parts.

I guess I’ll be hanging on to my E46, where I just did pads and rotors, front and rear, for $320 (+my own labor).

It also doesn’t hurt my back to drive.

However, I think my car is less exciting. So there’s that.

I drove my friend’s Lexus F-Sport whatever coup yesterday. It was brilliant. Easy to drift and great controls and very manageable. And I’m done. I just don’t have the dough for cars like that. It’s all I can do to maintain the old — and maintanable — cars in my fleet.

Ah, I’d love to drive something like that, once. More than once, even... but yeah. I live in a small town and pretty much NO one drives a flashy car. Sure, some people have a nice toy, there are some 911s around and some nice Mercs; the occasional M car or S4 / S6. That’s about it. Besides not being able to afford one, people would look at me sideways, and while I don’t care what people think... I do to an extent.

In fact there’s a realtor who seems to lease a new something about every 2 years; since I’ve been paying attention he’s had a big Jag, an A8, a Panamera, Cadillac ... whatever the big sedan is lately... and I forget what he’s in now. And I can’t tell you how many people comment on his car(s). Yeah nope.

I’m with you, in just keeping my aging fleet on the road and working properly. Total age of our three cars (I’m not counting the ‘61 Ford) is 36 years and about 470,000 miles.
